I just stumbled across iTweak, a free application that gives you the chance to add favicons, hit counters, google site search fields and more to your lowly iWeb website.

It seems pretty simple to use and gives iWeb some pretty nifty functionality. Guess well have to wait to see if any of this will be included in the next iteration of iWeb but until then, check it out.

I know, I know, not another search engine!…

This one promises to be different.

Cuil (pronounced “cool”) is an old Irish word for Knowledge and tries to offer a more reliable and relevant search engine. Basing its search criteria on relevance and content rather than superficial metrics and user data, websites big and small have an equal chance of appearing high up in searches. The searches are presented to you in a clean format with a picture preview and synopsis, allowing you to see at a glance if the search is relevant.

As well as this fresh way of searching, Cuil claims to search three times as many sites as Google and ten times as many as Microsoft. The cherry on the icing is that unlike the big boys, Cuil will never store user data or search history, no matter how tempting it may be to spy on you and your habits, they wont!

Compfight is a search engine that references FLICKR but only returns results from images that have CREATIVE COMMONS licenses. This means that you can (mostly) freely use the images for your own purposes without feeling the wrath of  an IP lawyer!..

It has a really nice and simple interface and works relatively quickly. Check it out.

Transform your browser into a lightning fast, cinematic way to discover the Web. This is the promise of Cooliris and it kinda delivers.

Basically it is a plugin for Safari that adds a button to the Safari window that when pressed will invoke the cooliris view where you will see purely the media contained within certain (supported) websites. At the moment it is fairly restricted to flickr, google, amazon etc but you can also easily optimise your own website to work with cooliris by going to developer.cooliris.com (they have made it really easy to do!).

Even though its still a bit green its defintely worth downloading and adds an extra dash of Oooooo! to your browsing experience!
